The hydraulic lift horseshoe dynamometer utilizes an installed spacer spool for conducting dynamometer tests, enabling easy insertion of the horseshoe transducer and hydraulic lift assembly. By transferring load from the spacer to the 5" horseshoe load cell using a portable hydraulic pump, followed by removal of the pump and operation of the pumping unit until stabilization, accurate dynamometer analysis reflecting normal well conditions is achieved.

For accurate dynamometer measurements, a strain gauge load cell directly measuring polished rod load is ideal, but its installation typically involves separating the polished rod clamp and carrier bar, resulting in the entire rod string being lifted, altering pump performance due to changed pump spacing. To mitigate this, a spacer spool, hydraulic lift, and 5" horseshoe dynamometer equipment are utilized to minimize changes in polished rod position relative to the carrier bar during load cell insertion.

The hydraulic lift load cell system comprises five components: the 5" horseshoe transducer, hydraulic lift, spacer spool, spacer plate, and portable hydraulic pump with hose and fittings.
